Windows Update Error 8024a000

In This Tutorial I Will Show You How To Fix The Windows Update Error  8024a000




I recently had to replace a faulty hard drive on my neighbor's desktop computer, which is running windows vista 32 bit, after doing the reinstallation of windows, I went ahead and tried to do all the  updates and got the windows update error 8024a000 so started doing some research and noticed that a lot of people are having the same issue after replacing a hard drive; windows update will not work.

In order to fix the error code 8024a000 do the following steps in order:


Stop all services that belong to Windows Update

 
1. -    Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

2.  -   At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press enter after each command.

        net stop wuauserv
        net stop bits

        net stop cryptsvc
 

Rename folders that belong to Windows Update


At the command prompt, type the following commands, and then press Enter after each command:

4.     ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
5.     ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old


Register all  DLL’s files that belong to Windows Update


 
6.     Copy and paste the following text into a new Notepad document, and save the file as WindowsUpdate.BAT
     
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mshtml.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msjava.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll /s
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll /s
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wups2.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 sccbase.dll /s

7. Once you save it , double click on the file to open it, you will see the command prompt open  registering all the dll files.


Restart all services that belong to Windows Update


 
8.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

9.     At the command prompt, type the following, commands and then press ENTER after each command.

        net start wuauserv
        net start bits

        net start cryptsvc
        exit
 
I hope that this solves your windows update error 8024a000, because it did worked for me.
Other people have had success by just reinstalling the  Intel rapid Storage Technology drivers.

  2. This worked like a dream, in total contrast to Microsoft's poorly designed operating systems, many of which are faulty on brand new laptops etc.

    This problem has been around for at least 5 years and yet Microsoft expects their customers to solve the problem that has been created by Microsoft and should have been permanently fixed by Microsoft.

    I used Microsoft's own troubleshooter to try to fix this Windows Update problem but it failed miserably.

    I dread to think of the problems that many people will have when they start up their shiny, new Windows 8.1 machines at Christmas.
